Describe your work style in 3 words.

organized, methodical, balanced

Describe your personal style in 3 words.

vintage, handmade, eclectic

Describe your desk style in 3 words.

essential, neat, convertible

your.desk

What special/unique items do you keep on your desk? Why?

I love function. Space in my NYC apartment is limited, especially since I share a desk with my boyfriend who uses the space for video and photo-editing so there is only room for the essentials. At any given moment the desk needs to transform from a computer station to a sewing table so it’s also important to be able to move those items quickly and in an organized way.

What things on your desktop make you Work Happy?

I get a lot of joy from the things in my office- my books, my grandmother’s cookie jar, our collection of vintage cameras and art on the walls.

What is your favorite Poppin item on your desk and why?

The green pens are my favorite. It takes true vision to take something as simple as a ballpoint pen and give it such an interesting, yet simple design. They inspire me!

Fill in the blank: “I always have room for creativity on my desk.”

your.blog

What special/unique items do you keep on your desk? Why?

My assortment of colorful pens & sticky notes. I wear a lot of color in my wardrobe so I think that projects onto my desk style. Color just makes things more fun!
What is your favorite Poppin item on your desk and why?

Probably my highlighters – there’s always a need for something to be highlighted and organized so they get used A LOT! Or the mini flags – they’re perfect for marking important info when reading reports and large decks

Cocktails that POP!

This past Monday, in celebration of it being Monday, we played mixologists. But only with ingredients starting with the letter P.

Luke, our TGIM host, came up with the idea to design some POPtails, and crafted this awesome invite and menu…

Using only the ingredients listed in the image above we went about creating a signature Poppin cocktail. We were surprised by how many good ones we were actually able to come up with. Here are some of the results…

Prissy in Pink by Jackie: Peach Schnaps, Pear Juice, Procesco and Pink Citrus Lemonade (in equal parts).

Faux [Diet] Coke by Meredith: Prosecco and Pink Lemonade with a splash of Pimms.

The Ish by Luke: Peach Schnaps, Pom (Pomegranate Juice) and Pims topped with Perrier

Poppin Punch by Chris: Prosecco, OJ (don’t know how they slipped in there!), Pomegranate Juice and Peach Schnaps

It’s a Delight! by Ellen: Pims, Pink Lemonade and Perrier

The Jeff Miller Project by Jeff: Pomegranate Juice and Prosecco with Plums

Pinkberry Peach by Francesca: Peach Schnaps, Pink Lemonade, Prosecco with Pears

Party Killer by Merrick: Presidente Beer

Dr. Popper by Randy: Presidente, Pimm’s and Pink Lemonade

PPPPPST by Matteo: Peach and Peach Rings Muddled, Pims, Pomegranate Juice and Prosecco

The Saguaro Scottsdale and The Saguaro Palm Springs

You’ve probably seen images of the new Saguaro Palm Springs on Pinterest, Design-Milk and many other design-focused blogs and websites. These frequent appearances are well deserved, the two Saguaro hotel properties are unlike any hotels most of us have ever visited. So when I did some research about the properties, it made complete sense that the Saguaro’s owners and developers, The Sydell Group, collaborated with Ace International on New York City’s Ace Hotel. While the Ace is not particularly colorful, it is a stylistic masterpiece. But what could’ve inspired them to develop a chain of hotels using a palette of “12 vibrant tones”?

Let’s start by saying that the original property, TheSaguaro [pronounced suh-warh-oh] was named for the iconic cactus of the Sonoran Desert. With the first Saguaro property, located in

Scottsdale, Arizona, architects Peter Samberg and Paul Aferiat were brought in to infuse local color into the property. The team was already known for their bold use of color and strongly advocated recreating The Saguaro around a palette of 12 vibrant tones found in native desert wildflowers.

In Scottsdale, the colors now adorn each balcony and patio and anchor the guestrooms, while also enlivening the indoor and outdoor public spaces. The color set follows the light spectrum, which in turn creates different perspectives of the hotel according to the time of day.

The Sydell Group acquired the second Saguaro property in mid-2011, with the plan to renovate the standing hotel property into a resort celebrating the natural surroundings of Palm Springs, California. After their successful launch of the Saguaro Scottsdale, Sydell assembled the same team of creative partners to support the relaunch of this property.

Much like the renovation of the property in Scottsdale, architects Samberg and Aferiat were brought in and once again infused this property with a platte of 12 local colors. They once again dramatically transformed all aspects of the property, including, the guestrooms, patio and balcony, and other indoor and outdoor spaces around the hotel.

What special/unique items do you keep on your desk? Why?

My desk at home serves as a multi-purpose space. Its where I blog from every night but it’s also where our tv lives. I love that it actually looks like a desktop computer and when guests come over they think we don’t have a tv. If only they still made white tvs.

What things on your desktop make your desk and why?

I love having everything color coordinated in neutral shades – it makes a desk look more organized even if it’s not. On top of that, my favorite Diptyque candles, a Buddha I found a the flea market and of course Astier (a pottery line from Paris that I collect). Lastly, my iPad – I can’t live without it. It’s perfect for when I’m on the go!

Old-Fashioned Pink Lemonade (…possibly spiked on a Sunday afternoon)

Here’s a simple recipe from Babble’s Blog

Ingredients

1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, 1 cup lemon juice, 1 cup cranberry juice, 5 cups of water

Method

Combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil and stir to dissolve. Let cool.

Add sugar water, lemon juice, cranberry juice and water in a 2 quart pitcher. Stir to combine.

Apple iPad in White

Here is one of the many reasons Apple rules the world, they make everything in WHITE! I’d happily trade in my clunky black iPad 1 for a chic WHITE iPad 3

Madewell Shrunken Paintchip Boyshirt

We are loving all things Madewell right now (picture frequent Poppin trips across Fifth Avenue to the Madewell store).

“Mint”-colored Jeans

Yes, I’m a total advocate for colored-jeans for Spring (what kind of Poppin-employee wouldn’t be?). This image (via Pinterest) just epitomizes Spring Style. 7ForMankind and Rag+Bone both offer some good options.

Egg Shell Candles

While I’m new to DIY projects, this seems like a fun easy one to pull off! (Instructions via Chatelaine.com)

These candles, which are a cinch to pull off, will light up any brunch table or spring mantel. Melt shredded wax in a metal container (an old can works well) over a double boiler and pour into empty eggshells. When wax is partly set (three to five minutes), insert a small birthday candle, trimmed to size. Display them grouped together in egg cups or even napkin rings.

Dressy or casual, these guys work.

I saw these at a Target store and snatched them right up. I love a quirky nail. (I’m currently testing them out.)

I love pulling this guy out of my bag to sign a receipt or any need-for-a-pen occurrence arises. I recently switched over from my Navy one.

Peeps

No explanation needed.
