It’s not just desks and offices, creating vibrant spaces you want to be in can be a tough task no matter the room. I’m from New York City so I am used to relatively small spaces, no houses, just apartments. In general, with small spaces you need to be extra-crafty to maximize your little home. But no matter size of the room, there are easy ways to make your space POP (feel warm, vibrant and happy). These are mostly ideas I thought about after I moved into a new apartment, and wish I had given more thought at the time. Hopefully, one or two of these will help you.
Happy Decorating!

POP TIP #1. Hit The Books: Using Books as Home Decor
Books pile up (literally and figuratively) over the years and if not organized properly can seem overwhelming. No one wants to throw away a book, the rule of books is you pass them along to someone else or you save them because you simply cannot let it go.
There are a few ways to organize books that will actually kill two birds with one stone: help you get organized and add a POP of color and some style to the room. The first one is fairly obvious, but here it goes, BUY A BOOKCASE. I recommend the Expedit collection from Ikea or West Elm’s Rolling Storage, you can take the wheels off. I like white bookcases but go with what you prefer, just make sure it is relatively simple, actually stores books and doesn’t involve useless design features. Once you have the right piece of furniture, organizing your books by color is your best bet.
If you don’t have quite so many books floating around, there are other ways to maximize your existing books. Have a lamp on a table? Stack one or two books under it to raise it slightly. Use them to create some interest on boring surfaces.
The last option may involve purchasing new books. Coffee Table books tend to look super chic, well, on your coffee table. But also stacked, and mixed in with other décor. While Fashion, Art, Travel and Décor ones are easiest to find, you can find a beautiful book around nearly any topic. Only buy and use coffee table books you really love and are excited to have.
Come back next Wednesday for POP TIP #2. Area Rugs that POP.
